The Cowes Film Club are hosting The Muppet Christmas Carol film at Trinity Theatre.
The Muppet Christmas Carol is a 1992 American Christmas musical film directed by Brian Henson (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Jerry Juhl.
It is the fourth theatrical film featuring The Muppets. Adapted from the 1843 novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the film starts Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, alongside Muppet performers Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson and Frank Oz.
Scrooge, an old miser who dislikes Christmas, is visited by spirits who foretell his future and share secrets from his past and present, which helps change his view on life.
Before production began, Sir Michael Caine told producer and director Brian Henson, “I’m going to play this movie like I’m working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I will never wink, I will never do anything Muppety. I am going to play Scrooge as if it is an utterly dramatic role, and there are no puppets around me.” Henson replied “Yes, bang on!”
